Strategic Collaboration Meeting on Sabo Dam Technology in Gunung Jerai, Kedah_1 Oct 2021

Debris flow was caused by continuous heavy rainfall in The Mount Jerai area and fast flowing water to the foothills of the mountain involving Sungai Kunyit, Sungai Teroi and Sungai Puteri Mandi. The rapid flow has swished logs, rubbish and stuck in trajectories causing the river water to overflow into nearby settlements (Kampung Tupah and Taman Tupah). The morphological factor of Mount Jerai which is latent landslide/ Old dormant landslide has also contributed to the frequency of landslide events. In line with this, a proposed sabo dam was proposed to prevent the occurrence of water heads which would contribute to the flow of debris/ debris flow as well as to smooth the flow of rivers in the event of heavy rainfall in the Mount Jerai mountains directly saving the lives of tourists or the public and protection of public facilities and infrastructure.
