BORNEO ISLAND SEA LEVEL RISE : MIRI & SANDAKAN
Present day, sea level has become an important topic because of its potential impacts on human populations living in the coastal regions and on the islands. Sea level rise has potential threats to our coastal community, particularly in the low-lying area such as inundation, erosion, extreme events of storm surge, and saltwater intrusion which will affect the socio-economic. The physical vulnerability of the coastline to sea level impacts depended on many additional factors. Coastal elevation determines the area of land at risk of flooding or inundation. Shoreline features such as whether a shoreline is sandy or rocky, vegetated or not influence its susceptibility to erosion from rising sea levels. In 2022, NAHRIM has studied the impact of sea level rise in Miri and Sandakan District in Borneo Island. Hence this book is published to give an overview of Miri and Sandakan coastlines and potential threats from sea level rise. It is hoped that this book will provide general information about the coastal morphology of both districts and give awareness us to protect our coastal area in the future
