ESTIMATION OF WATER YIELD FOR ABSTRACTION PURPOSES AT SG. GEDONG, BATANG PADANG, PERAK - MALAYSIA WATER RESEARCH JOURNAL VOL 11 NO 1 (MWRJ 2021)

This study was carried out to estimate water availability at Sg Gedong, Daerah Batang Padang, Perak. This study involved hydrological calculation and analysis of the historical hydro-meteorological data and water availability (yield estimation) at the project site using methods for ungauged basins. To simulate daily catchment runoff (streamflow), Thornthwaite and Mather Daily Water Balance Model was used, as described in DID’s Water Resources Publication (WRP) 12. The Flow Duration Curve (FDC) was constructed using simulated daily flow data from the water balance model. It was concluded that 0.74 m3/s (63.9 MLD) could be abstracted from the study site throughout the year during normal flow conditions. However, low flow analysis frequency analysis should also be conducted to estimate the extreme minimum flow associated with the return period in Sg Gedong.
