Novel Insight into the Water Reuse Strategy in Paddy Field: A Pillaring Arm Supporting the Successive Establishment of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6)
Agriculture is the largest consumer of water, using 72% of the total worldwide and 87% in developing countries. with the growing water demand for non-agricultural uses, the proportion available for agriculture is projected to decline t o62% worldwide and 73% in developing countries. the present and future food security of Asia depends largely on the irrigated rice production system, with more than 75% of the rice supply coming from 79 million ha of irrigated land. to produce 1 kg of grain, farmers have to allocate 2 to 3 times more water in rice fields than in those growing other cereals and in Asia the amount of water applied to irrigate rice field accounts for approximately 50% of all diverted fresh water.
