IMPAK PERUBAHAN IKLIM KE ATAS BANJIR DAN ADAPTASI - PERSIDANGAN KEBANGSAAN MITIGASI BANJIR (MAJLIS PROFESOR NEGARA 2014)

Over the past few years, flooding is the most significant natural hazard in Malaysia in term of population affected, frequency and area of flood extent, flood duration and social economic damage. In term of socioeconomic, the flood occurrences which cover large land areas, have negative impact as well as the quality of life for residents living within the middle and lower reach of the catchment. In the era of 21st centuries the climate change impact is the most serious environmental intimidations. Climate change will have major and unpredictable effects on the world's water systems, including an increase in floods and droughts. Climate change continues to be a major threat as it adversely impacts economic and social development gains. On top of that, the implementation of adaptation measures should be take into consideration in all development design and planning. The scope of adaptation measure should be widely addressed socio-economic advantages, environmental, agricultural and ecosystem protections as well as to reduce the negative impact due to climatic change factors. The incorporated of both structural and non-structural measures should be implement extensively in designing and planning especially in flood mitigation approaches.
