Building an Early Flood Warning and Disaster Prevention System by Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Kemaman River Basin
NAHRIM has been involved in the latest technological advancement in issues related to hydrology and water resources since its inception in year 1995. To stay on top of technological trends, both in hydrology and the world at large, NAHRIM has developed a flood forecasting model for Kemaman, Terengganu, which is one of the most frequently inundated areas in Malaysia during Northeast Monsoon seasons. This flood forecasting model employs Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique to predict flood inundation areas based on real-time hydrological data. This pilot study will be able to test the effectiveness of an AI-based flood forecast model in Malaysia which could be used for rural monsoon and urban flash floods. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Ms Liew Yuk San from River Basin Research Centre for her role in developing the Kemaman (Chukai) river basin hydraulic model
