Laporan Pembangunan Produk Inovasi "NAHRIM Invisible Levee System"
Floods is a major issues in the country. For the past few years, more frequent and serious floods were experienced. Various low lying areas and major towns like Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kuching, Kuantan, Kajang and Segamat were flooded. Kuala Lumpur City Centre itself recorded floods every year since 2012 till now which were March and May 2012, April 2013 and May 2014. Last year, 2014 also ended with a devastating floods in Malaysia, with Kelantan as the worst among other states to be hit. Public infrastructures such as houses, schools, hospitals were flooded while, bridges, road and rail systems were damaged. It is estimated over RM1 billion losses due to floods. This product namely “NAHRIM Invisible Levee System-NAILS” is a new invention which could be an option for flood protection. NAILS is functioning to hold excess water for flood protection, able to withstand and bear high water pressure without leakage, it is installed at main gate of public infrastructures that could be under flood risk, and NAILS can be raised during wet season and lowered after water receding. The aim of this development project is to design and build two types of NAILS to block water from overflow without interrupting space utilization. This innovative design where the blocking walls are stored in the box provided underground is very potential to be used especially in the urban and suburban area where space is very limited. It is hopeful that this new invention can be the utilized by public utilities agencies for flood protection of individual public infrastructure like schools, hospitals and others at flood prone areas and further helping in reducing flood loss.
