The Potential of Two-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Flood Modelling for Johor River Basin
Hydrodynamic flood modelling can be carried out either using one-dimensional or two-dimensional approaches. In terms of flood hazard mapping, one-dimensional (1D) flood modelling is a conventional approach. The two-dimensional (2D) flood modelling is potential to be widely used for future flood mapping delineation if having a good quality of ground model such as Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data. It provides more detail information on the flooding extent, flow direction and velocity. The advancement of these techniques will deliver a better results on general accuracy to assist in a more convincing decision making process. This paper briefly discusses on the data requirements and the potential of flood hazard mapping using 2D approach particularly for Johor River Basin.
