National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) is conducting a study titled Feasibility Study on Underground Dam in Langkawi Island, Malaysia to assist with the evaluation of storing 50 million cubic meters (MCM) from groundwater sources and surface water in Langkawi. The aim of the report is to identify and assess the potential groundwater recharge for the surface water in selected nine major river basins in Langkawi. This will assist on the evaluation of the potential underground dam site in order to provide a sustainable groundwater supply ranging from 60 MLD to 107 MLD. The study approach and results of the feasibility phase to determine the potential of groundwater supply and recharge to store for the proposed underground dam are outlined in this report.
